This picturesque campus is centrally located within the city and maintains the integrity of its naturally wooded surroundings.
Minutes away from the Trans-Canada 11-17 highway. In addition, the Trans-Canada Hiking Trail passes through the campus. Thunder Bay International Airport is about a 10 minute drive from campus, approximately 20 minutes by city bus and four km from the Greyhound Bus Terminal.

What we have to offer:

Trowbridge Falls Park contains over 600 hectares (1500 acres) of boreal forest along the cascading Current River. This beautiful park features a full-service campground with RV and tent sites that is only a short distance from Boulevard Lake and Centennial Parks. Along with hiking, skiing and moutain biking trails, the campground and adjacent Kinsmen Park provide access to popular wading spots on the river. There is a store, washrooms, showers, laundry facilities, firewood sales, water and electrical services at the campground. City shopping and services are close by.

What we have to offer:

Thunder Bay International Hostel is on a large section of rural forested (red pine, birch, poplar) property along Lakeshore Drive about 18 km east from the city limits. It is located about 1.5.km east from the junction of Mackenzie Station Road and the four-laned expressway 11-17. There are three buildings on the site plus two furnished school buses. Camping is possible. Open year round. The hostel is probably the oldest private hostel in Canada with space for about forty people. Communal kitchen. Only one km from Lake Superior and the Mackenzie River. Friendly and positive, the hostel contains artifacts from around the world scattered throughout and two pianos. Owner is Lloyd Jones.

What we have to offer:

This hostel is close to Port Arthur's downtown, 2km from Lakehead U., right around the corner from Tim's Horton's, and close to the hospital. There are many things to see in the area including Marina Park, the Hoito Restaurant and Little Finland, and Little Italy. Laundromat is one block away.

Gail is a great host--upbeat, energetic.

Services include free Wi-fi, free linen, free parking, free sailing (three times per week in the summer), free coffee, tea, and pancakes, use of barbeque. Sauna is available for $5.00. Free use of bicycles.

We are a small international hostel situated in the heart of the village of Providence Bay. Our house is situated 400 steps (we actually counted) from the longest, most beautiful sandy beach and boardwalk on Manitoulin Island. The beach alone is worth the trip!

Auberge Inn is an eco-friendly hostel where you can enjoy comfortable and affordable accommodations while exploring the largest fresh water island in the world. We can accommodate up to 8 guests. How to get here:

Driving Directions by car or bicycle:

Please note, there is only partial cell phone service on the Island. Therefore it is important to print off or get the driving directions for the Island prior to your arrival on the Island.


Driving directions from Southern Ontario from early May to late October

  • Take highway 6 up the scenic Bruce Peninsula to Tobermory.
  • From there, you will board the Chi-Cheemaun ferry, which will take you across the Georgian Bay to South Baymouth. Consult their website for a detailed schedule and fees.
  • Driving time is approximately 30 minutes from South Baymouth.
  • As you get off of the ferry, drive 4.3 km on highway 6 north.
  • Turn left at 10th Sideroad for 2.3 km.
  • Turn left onto Concession Rd 6 for 1.9 km.
  • Turn right onto 15th sideroad for 2.4 km.
  • Turn left onto Government Rd.  Drive for 18 km.
  • Turn right onto highway 551 for  along the beach.
  • Turn left to stay on highway 551;
  • Turn right on the first street the corner where you see the Lake Huron Fish and Chips. This is McNevin Street and the hostel is at 71 (the 2nd house  from the Fish and Chips restaurant.

After the Canadian Thanksgiving in late October, the ferry stops its activities.  You then have to drive up to Sudbury, taking 400 north until it becomes Highway 69. From there, get on the Trans-Canada Highway 17 east and follow these instructions…

Driving directions from the east or west via the Trans-Canada Highway 17(Montréal, Ottawa, North Bay, Sudbury, Sault-Ste-Marie, Thunder Bay)

  • From Highway 17 get to highway 6 intersection towards Espanola, that is 65 km west of Sudbury and 237 east of Sault-Ste-Marie.
  • Drive through Espanola and 51.2 km on highway 6 to the legendary swinging bridge. You are now on the Island in Little Current.
  • From Little Current to Providence Bay the approximate drive time is 40 minutes.
  • From the Swing Drive continue on highway 6 down the hill and you will see a large stop sign. Turn left onto highway 540 and drive  for 30 kms to town ofM’Chigeeng.
  • At M`Chigeeng (past Lillian’s Crafts & gift shop) you turn left  when you see the gas station onto hwy 551 and drive 11.2 km to Mindemoya (Note: this is the last place to buy groceries before you get to Providence Bay).
  • Once in Mindemoya at the Stop sign (in front you will see the Foodland grocery) turn right on Hwy542 for 10.1 km.
  • We will come to a Stop Sign (you will see the Hawberry House) turn  left onto Hwy 551 for 5 Km into Providence Bay.
  • Turn left onto the Street called Eliza Jane (you will see the Huron sands motel), the the stop is on McNevin (in front of the School House restaurant).
  • Turn right and the Auberge Inn is located at 71 McNevin.

Aproximate drive time from Sudbury is 2-2.5 hours and from Sault. Ste. Marie is approximately 4 hours.

By Greyhound Bus: From Toronto to Owen Sound there is a Greyhound. From Owen Sound you must take another bus company called First Student Canada. This only runs on Friday, Saturday and Sunday and Holiday Monday (runs seasonally). See their website. By Greyhound Bus: From Sault Ste. Marie or Sudbury take the Greyhound to Espanola. See Greyhound website for schedules. From Espanola, we can try and help you arrange a ride via taxi or carpool (there is a taxi service called Jeff's taxi that can bring you to the hostel from Espanola).

From the Ferry: There is also a tax service from South Baymouth that can bring you to the hostel 1-877-223-2269
