Directions: The closest airport to Banff is the Calgary International Airport:

Turn left onto Airport Rd. NE. Turn left onto Barlow Trail NE Provincial Route 2A N. Turn slightly left. Turn left onto Airport Trail NE. Merge onto Provincial Route 2 S/ Deerfoot Trail NE via the ramp on the left towards the city centre. Take the Trans Canada Highway (Highway 1) 16 Ave NW exit (exit 258). Keep right at the fork to go onto Provincial Route 1 W / Trans Canada Highway West. Follow the Trans Canada Highway for about 120 km till you get to the first Banff exit. Take the exit and keep left. Turn left towards Banff. Stay on Banff Ave till Martin Street and the hostel will be on the right hand-side before the turn-off into Martin and before the Shell Gas Station.

Directions from the Northwest:

Coming from the Northwest on Highway 1 take the first exit. Turn right onto Mt. Norquay Rd. towards Banff. Follow this road until you pass the tracks. Turn left right after the tracks onto Railway Ave and follow it until it becomes Elk St. On Elk St. turn left onto Marten St. and follow it to the end. We are on the left hand side right past the Best Western.

Directions from the Greyhound Station:

Coming out of the station turn left onto Elk St. When you hit Marten St. turn left and follow it all the way to the end. We are on the left hand side right past the Best Western.

From Greyhound/Bus Depot Station by Calgary Transit (30 minutes):

1. 1. From the Greyhound station, walk 6 blocks East along 9th Avenue towards Downtown (you’ll see the city skyline in the distance.
   2. Turn left on 10th Street and walk 2 blocks North to the C-Train station on 7th Avenue.
   3. Get a train ticket $2.75 and take the train to Stampede Station (6 stops).
   4. Follow the walkway up above, you can actually the Wicked Hostel Building across the street when you are on the walkway
   5. Follow the walkway over the street and down.

   Wicked Hostels will be on the corner just up the block to the right.

Churchill Square is 4 blocks away as is the Shaw Conference Centre. The University of Alberta Enterprise centre is 2 blocks away and Grant MacEwan College downtown is a 7 block walk. By Car: From the Old Island Hwy South, as you enter Courtenay the Hwy becomes Cliffe Ave. Stay on Cliffe until the end. Turn right on 1st Street and right again on Anderton Ave. The Cona is at the end on the left hand side. From the Old Island Hwy North, as you enter Courtenay, just past Lewis and Millenium Parks you’ll cross over the Courtenay River on the “5th Street Bridge”. Make a right on Anderton immediately after the bridge and another right into The Cona.
The Cona Hostel offers you free parking.
By Bus: From the Courtenay bus depot walk across the street to Driftwood Mall and across the mall parking lot to Cliffe Ave. By foot, it is about a 20-25 minute walk north (left) on Cliffe. At the 5th Street traffic lights, cross over 5th and head right down the hill. We are on the left just before the 5th Street Bridge.
By Train: We are approximately 10 minutes by foot from the station. Walk East on Cumberland Road a few blocks, turn left on Cliffe Ave. At the 5th Street traffic lights, cross over 5th and head right down the hill. We are on the left just before the 5th Street Bridge.

Directions: Bayview Garden is located minutes from the Sandspit airport, along the main road that borders beautiful Shingle Bay. From the airport, proceed west beside the bay for approximately 3/4 mile (1.5km), watching for our sign. Bayview Garden is located on the main Beach Road, between School road and Park road.

During the summer season, there are twice-daily Air Canada flights from Vancouver, and in other seasons there is one flight per day. Reservations are available through www.aircanada.com.

If you would rather drive your own car, or plan to come on foot from the mainland, BC Ferries has regularly scheduled ferries from Prince Rupert to the Skidegate terminal on the northern island, Graham Island.

Sandspit is on Moresby Island, the large southern island. It is a short 20 minute ferry ride from the Skidegate landing to Alliford Bay on Moresby Island. Alliford Bay is 10kms out of the townsite of Sandspit. If you are on coming on foot, it is possible to ask for a ride to the drivers of vehicles crossing on the ferry, or give us a call to arrange a pick up.
You may also wish to take a ferry up the beautiful inside passage from Port Hardy on Vancouver Island.

Directions from Powell River

Take the Earl’s Cover ferry from Saltery Bay Terminal. (Fare is for round trip) From Earl’s Cove, follow the signs to Sechelt (54km). On entering Sechelt, the Courthouse/Police Station will be straight ahead. Take the fork either way; the roads meet again. When you get to the end of the street, turn left (Wharf Road). About 300 meters further will be the main intersection. (There is an Esso gas station on the right.) Go straight through the intersection. We are the last commercial building on the left at 5653 Wharf Road, 2nd floor. Plenty of parking is available.

Bus Transportation

Alternatively, the Malaspina Bus is available to Sechelt from Vancouver or Powell River twice a day. Take the bus directly from the Vancouver International Airport, the Vancouver Bus Depot, or the Powell River Bus Depot. The bus arrives in Sechelt directly in front of our door. (Same building.) Directions: From the Airport
the cheapest option is local transit which costs $8.50. Take the Canada Line skytrain to Vancouver City Center on the corner of Granville and Georgia and walk three blocks south(turn right on Granville) from there. A taxi costs about $29 from the airport.
You can also get to the lodge by local transit bus. Costs are $8.50 per person and directions are available from any airport information desk.

From the Train Station or Greyhound Bus Station
Walk across the park to the Main St. Skytrain Station. Take any train towards Waterfront 2 stops to Granville St. Turn left onto Granville St. and walk 4 blocks. You will see our red neon sign.

From Seattle
When you get into Vancouver, continue along Highway 99 and it will eventually turn in to Oak St. Once you reach Broadway, turn left. Continue on Broadway to Granville and turn right. This will take you over the Granville Street bridge – we are on the right 3 blocks after the bridge.

From Whistler
Drive into Vancouver take the Lions Gate Bridge follow Georgia at Howe Street and turn right. Travel on to Nelson and turn left. Travel a couple blocks on Nelson to Granville and you will see us 100 meters from the intersection to the right.

Upon arriving on Cape Breton Island, follow highway #105 for 54 km (34 miles) to our place. We are located at 10705 in Aberdeen, 5 km past Whycocomagh on the way to Baddeck.

Getting to UW

By Car

From Highway 401 take exit 278 (from Toronto) or exit 278B (from London) to Highway 8 West, Kitchener. Exit at Highway 85 to Waterloo. Take the 2nd University Avenue exit, marked West. Follow University Avenue West to Phillip Street, which is the 8th light past the exit. Turn right onto Phillip Street. At the next light turn left on Columbia Street. Follow Columbia Street past the stoplight which marks the north entrance to the University. At the next entrance, turn left and follow the signs to Ron Eydt Village. Parking is available in Lots V and S which are just past Lot K, after you enter the campus.

By Train, Bus, or Plane

You can easily reach the University of Waterloo by taking the Via Rail train or the Greyhound bus to Kitchener, and then Grand River Transit to the campus. Transportation from Pearson International Airport in Toronto the closest major airport is available by contacting Airways Transit at 519-886-2121.

If you arrive in the city at Trudeau airport, there is a bus service to downtown. Get the schedule here (www.admtl.com/passager/acces_et_stationnement/_aerobus.aspx). It will drop you at the Montréal Central Bus Station located at 505 de Maisonneuve Blvd. E. From there you can take a taxi or hop in the metro (underground train), take direction Angrignon and get out at station Guy Concordia. Once out of the metro station you will be on the corner of Maisonneuve & Guy street, from there you walk east on Maisonneuve (in the direction of the Java U coffee shop) then make a right on Mackay street.

If you arrive by train at Gare Central (Central Station), walk three blocks north on Mansfield St. from the station to Saint-Catherine Street, then turn left (west) and walk eight blocks to Mackay. Turn right and we are on the right.

If you arrive by car:
From the west: The Trans Canada Highway is called the Autoroute 401 in Québec. Take the exit for Autoroute 40 Est and move immediately to the left lane. Take the exit for Autoroute Décarie. Follow the signs for Autoroute Ville-Marie. ( this seems like a lot of highways, but the trips on each are only a few kilometers. BTW a kilometer is 0.6 miles. Take the exit for Rue Guy, and go straight three blocks to rue Saint-Catherine. Turn right and go four blocks to Mackay. Turn left, and we are on the left.
From the south: Cross the Pont Champlain and follow the signs for Centre-ville. When you get to the end of the highway continue straight up University Street for about 10 blocks until you get to rue de Maisonneuve. Turn left and go 10 blocks to Mackay St, and turn left. We are on your left.
From the east: Take Autoroute 40 west and take the exit for Autoroute Décarie. Follow the signs for Autoroute Ville-Marie. (this seems like a lot of highways, but the trips on each are only a few kilometers. BTW a kilometer is 0.6 miles. Take the exit for Rue Guy, and go straight three blocks to rue Saint-Catherine. Montreal has an excellent public transit system that can get you anywhere in the city. The first time you go to a metro station, ask the ticket taker or our staff for the Plan de Réseau. It is the official public transit map, one of the best maps of the city, and it is free. You can download it here (www.stm.info/english/info/reseau2007.pdf), but it is too big to print. The Société de Transport de Montréal offers other good maps on their web site (www.stm.info/english/info/a-plans.htm).
