Going on vacation is meant to be fun, relaxing, memorable, and a whole host of other feelings that a trip away can evoke. We all need it from time to time. Whether you’re backpacking across Canada and visiting Fjords or you’re exploring what Europe has to offer, travelling can become boring at times, though. Long coach rides aren’t exactly the most riveting of experiences. Likewise, neither is a mammoth train journey. Thankfully, that’s where smartphone games can come in handy.
It’s no secret that the world’s population has become more tech-savvy in 2021. We’re updating social media profiles on a regular basis, following our health and fitness using trackers on our wrists, and uploading footage of our adventures abroad onto platforms like YouTube. Arguably the most popular modern-day gadget of them all is the smartphone. Games are a go-to option on a mobile device for many people, too. The extensive offering in this space makes it a worthwhile entertainment option to explore, with some people rumbling the killer on a spaceship in titles like Among Us, while others opt for slots based on iconic characters like Lara Croft. The offering in this space is massively detailed, though. Gone are the days where Snake and Tetris were the only worthwhile gaming options on a mobile phone device, instead being replaced by heaps of titles on both Android and iOS.
Of course, depending on where you are in the world does hinge on whether or not you’ll have access to specific titles, but many of the top games are available to play in most countries. With that in mind, here’s a look at some of them. All of the games featured are available on both Android and iOS unless stated otherwise.
Alto’s Adventure
Endless runners have always been popular titles, and Alto’s Adventure is no different in that respect. This 2D auto-runner has been well received in recent times thanks to its style and quality, which is of the highest order. Players can complete daily quests, all while salivating at the game’s gorgeous visual effects on offer.
Genshin Impact
In terms of stunningly beautiful visuals and an all-around satisfying release to sample, Genshin Impact is up there with the very best. An open-world title that has been compared to the likes of Zelda in the past, the game is an action-role playing product that allows players to control one of four interchangeable characters in a party. Its core gameplay is impressive as you climb up walls and swim across rivers, alongside a whole host of other things.
Pokemon Go

Pokemon Go is a game that certainly isn’t accessible in specific countries, but if you’re lucky enough to be somewhere where you can access it then you’ll be in for a treat. The main aim of the game is to fill up your Pokédex, but players can also battle against each other, take down gyms, complete a variety of quests, and hatch eggs by walking certain distances. The fact all of this and more can be enjoyed in augmented reality makes it even more impressive.
PUBG Mobile
One of the biggest mobile games of the last few years, PUBG has made a successful transition over to mobile. In fact, the game had $299 million in player spending in July alone. PUBG Mobile is particularly popular in China, as players enjoy what is one of the best online multiplayer battle royale games ever made.
Other popular options include Roblox, Honor of Kings, Among Us, Candy Crush Saga, Coin Master, Garena Free Fire, Mario Kart Tour, Dead by Daylight Mobile, and Fortnite.
